I learnt about this trend in detail at manrepeller.com, which is a blog about fashion and what’s trending. This particular blog about sandals with socks was written by Harling Ross at Man Repeller.
There is a myriad of memes regarding this trend and the Internet does not appreciate this style. It is treated very similar to the use of Crocs. But veteran Crocs users know they would never succumb to the pressures of the Internet.
With the temperature soaring this summer, this trend might come in handy to those who are brave enough to seek it.
Major setbacks to this trend can be the following
- You look like you came out to get groceries but jammed the first pair of slippers you found.
- Socks with sandals can cause a bit of grip trouble. If you are not wearing the right kind of sandals it might go sailing into the wind.
Lets get comfortable with the idea first
The trick to pulling off this look is to coordinate your outfit with your socks. Try and use vibrant and edgy socks so that it looks intentional and not the grocery store run I just mentioned above. Harling Ross calls it the ‘aura of intentionality’ that makes socks work with your outfit.

Charlotte gives us the most basic look with an all-black ensemble. If you are a beginner and are apprehensive about getting judgy eyes, this is an option for you.
If you don’t mind taking risks with your sartorial choices then you can play with colours to suit you.
Yet another example for you from Man Repeller where they incorporate plain white socks into this trend. She keeps her outfit simple to let the socks and sandals take the limelight.
Although you can pick an outfit based on your sandals, its always best to pick out your outfit first and then take it from there. That way you can be super confident in what you’re wearing and being edgy at the same time.
